Q. What day is Winter Cricket played on?

A. Sundays only, each game is 20 overs each inning's, so they take about 2.5 hours.


Q. When does the season start and finish?

A. The season starts on April 29th and finishes July 1st 2012.


Q. How long does the season last?

A. There are 6 preliminary rounds + Semi Finals and Finals.


Q. How much does it cost to play?

A. $50 per player for the season. Yes it’s only $50 per player for the whole season and there are no game fees or anything like that. There is an early bird offer valid until 12th February, 2012 with a saving of $10.00 for single players.


Q. How can I register?

A. There are two registration options; online and mail. To find out more about each option browse "online registration" page on the website.


Q. What happens after I register?

A. We will process your form and send you a confirmation email that your registration has been received. Around early April we will notify you of details regarding our 2012 Family Fun Day/Launch. The 2012 season handbook (which will include the playing draw, the rules among other information) will be available online early April and also the Family Fun Day/Launch.


Q. Does my son/daughter need to be with a club?

A. Not necessarily. A player can register as an individual and we will place them in a team (with their friends if they are playing) or as part of a team.


Q. What time are games played?

A. As a guide last season games started at 8:30am, 11:15am and 2:00pm. This may change, we are hoping to start at 9:00am and play on two games at a venue in 2012, provided we have sufficient grounds.


Q. What are the age groups?

A. Teams are u/10 u/12 u/14 u/16.


Q. Can you play if you have never played Cricket before?

A. Yes, we encourage players who have never played before.


Q. What equipment do I need?

A. Your will need your personal equipment, bat, pads, gloves and helmet.


Q. What equipment is supplied by Winter Cricket?

A. Stumps, Balls, Cones, Counters, Scorebooks, First Aid kits, Ice Packs are supplied by winter cricket to each team.


Q. Can I put a team forward?

A. Absolutely. 10 or 11 players is ideal, but if you have say 6 or 7, we will find you the rest. Please nominate a team name and highlight it on your application form.


Q. Can I register on my own?

A. Registration can be a single player or a team. If a single player is registered they will be placed in a team relevant to their experience and geographic location.


Q. Is there training?

A. No there is no training, so winter cricket doesn’t affect your normal winter sport training commitments.


Q. What are the age group cut off’s?

A. To be eligible to play in a particular Grade, a player must be under the age as set out below for each age group:

* Under 16 Grade less than 16 years as at midnight 31st August 2011

* Under 14 Grade less than 14 years as at midnight 31st August 2011

* Under 12 Grade less than 12 years as at midnight 31st August 2011

* Under 10 Grade less than 10 years as at midnight 31st August 2011

* Under 8 Grade less than 8 years as at midnight 31st August 2011


Q. Will teams be graded?

A. Yes, where possible, teams will be in 2 divisions. 1st Division for example in u/14 would be for rep players and second year u/14, 2nd Division would be for 1st year u/14, no rep players and players with no cricket experience where possible.


Q. How many players does each team need?

A. 9 players per team take the field, but it is best to have 10 or 11 to allow for players not being available for some games


Q. What do we wear?

A. You can wear your normal cricket whites or club t-shirt and white pants. If you are in a team that wants to develop its own playing attire/uniform the design, colour etc of all items especially t-shirts must be approved by the association. As a guideline, for obvious reasons playing pants must be white, T-shirts and jumpers are not be predominately red or any other colour that may impact vision of the batsman etc.


Q. Where are games played? In which area?

A. In 2012, there are four competitions across Sydney based on geographic zones. They are Western Zone (to include the regions of Penrith, Blacktown and Parramatta), South Western Zone (to include the regions of Camden-Campbelltown, Fairfield-Liverpool and Bankstown), Central Zone (to include the regions of St. George, Sutherland Shire, Canterbury, Inner West and Strathfield ) and Northern/Eastern Zone (Eastern Suburbs including and North Shore). Games will be scheduled within those zones, where there is a full division's in each competition. For an idea of grounds in your zone, please check out the "Playing Venues" page. Note, more parks are still being confirmed.


Q. Are umpires supplied for games?

A. Black and White umpires are only supplied for Semi Finals and Finals.


Q. Does every child get a trophy at Presentation Day for participating?

A. No. Not every player gets an award, however player encouragement awards from KFC are given throughout the season to players. We also give trophies for outstanding achievements in batting, bowling, fielding and all round performances per division etc. Premiers are also awarded an individual and team trophy. Also, we have a Brian Booth Spirit of Cricket award, to recognise a player from each team chosen by their team manager as having excelled in demonstrating the spirit of cricket throughout the season. We hold an incredibly big and successful Presentation Evening. Over 700 people have attended the last three registration days.

Twenty20 continues to be a spectacle that is unmatched in entertainment and enjoyment and accordingly up and coming young cricketers want to be part of the action. And the most welcome news to them would have to be

that they can play in their very own “Big Bash” by playing in the KFC Sydney Junior Winter Cricket Competition.  A prospect that, without question, all are eager to make happen and with this in mind, we are pleased to officially open registrations for season 2012 with the ‘EARLY BIRD OFFER’ available from today.  With this offer registrations are $40 per player,  so it’s a great opportunity to make some savings and secure your spot for season 2012 in Sydney’s very own “Big Bash”.  It will be a cracking season, as we unfold a bigger and better competition...
